The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act mandates that all these sites require that their users be 13 years old or older. MySpace voluntarily bumped this age up to 14. We know that there are many kids much younger than 13 or 14 on these sites. All they have to do is lie about their age and put in the correct birth year to seem old enough. What do kids do on their social networking site?
Create a personal profile
Chat/ email /post comments on another's page
Post pictures and videos

What can your teens do to be safer when using social networking sites?
Set profiles to "private": The only people that can see your profile are people you have accepted as a "friend"
Only "friend" people you know in real life: Some kids think it is cool to have a large friend list, but it can be dangerous. It is also not a good idea to "friend" celebrities. It's probably not really them and it gives a lot of people access to your profile.
Be careful what you post: Kids are not getting into colleges or the jobs they want because of things they posted.
