Spend a lot of time online, particularly instant messaging or in chat rooms?
Quickly close a browser window or shut off the computer monitor when you walk into the room?
Receive telephone calls from adolescents or adults that you do not know or make long-distance calls to phone numbers you do not recognize?
Is receive gifts or mail from people you do not know?
Seem withdrawn from "real-life" friends and/or family?
Seek out unsupervised internet access at friends' houses or in other places?
Have pornography on their computer or download and save pornographic images to discs?
Have a screen name that is suggestive or divulges personal information like age, sex or location? Examples include "sxygirl13" or "rutlandbro15"?
Post offensive, revealing or highly personal information on a personal profile?
Other things to watch for include:
The family computer slowing down - this could be the result of visiting less-than-reputable websites and spyware and pictures being downloaded to the computer.
Questionable websites showing up in your internet browser's history or "cookies" from explicit websites.
A completely cleared browser history can be a red flag. Histories are often deleted if a person does not want to leave a trail of the websites they have been visiting.
